Our Training
Philosophy
We have been instructing obedience classes since 1982. Our classes are small for
individualized attention. We accept dogs of all ages and all breeds, from
puppies to adults and we believe that no dog or owner is too old to learn new
tricks or behaviors!
We understand the advantages and disadvantages of both
positive and negative reinforcement training, and have developed a training
philosophy, which incorporates both aspects. Based on establishing authority and
leadership rather than dominance or intimidation, we build a positive foundation
for a desirable behavior using rewards.
From a behavioral perspective the answer
to a well adjusted pet is self confidence and acceptance of authority. Self
confidence is developed through training and socialization. All of our classes
are designed to help your dog develop social skills. The interaction with other
animals and people is used in a positive manner with controlled guidelines,
which encourages positive experiences. Control is established by teaching the
dog to accept the owner's authority when responding to commands. Control teaches
the dog that it is to the dog's advantage to respond to the owner's request.
We allow dogs to learn in a canine way.... we train YOU to train Your Dog!

Behavior Problem Counseling
Many problem behaviors are a normal part of puppy development and can be
routinely solved. However, some problems are of a more serious nature and
require the skill of a professional to establish the underlying cause and
develop an effective treatment program. The most common of these problems
include aggression, fear, and separation anxiety. Dogs never out grow these
problems; left untreated, they are self –reinforcing and will only become worse
over time. Aggression counseling is a specialty at Lindesfarne.
Treating aggression requires a specialized expertise. The in-depth understanding
of aggression requires a unique understanding. Lindesfarne has 30 years of
experience working with police departments and civilians; teaching training and
control of the aggression. We will meet with you and your dog to evaluate the
problem, and then recommend a course of action. This recommendation will involve
behavior modification; changing the way in which the dog perceives and interacts
with its surroundings. Behavior modification involves changing the way in which
the family interacts with the dog, and the promotion of a more structured
approach to controlling the behavior. The consultation fee is $150 for 1 hr.
Typically a 1 hour session is sufficient to give you insight into the problem,
and recommendations for resolution. All information provided is strictly
confidential. No information will be released without express permission of the
owner.
Remote Collar Training Lindesfarne is the
premier source for your remote collar training. Our goal is to develop
methods which will make it easy for you to train your dog. We maintain the method of
low-level stimulation for remote collar use. We provide you with a
systematic method for remote collar conditioning. Our basic principles for
remote training are:
-
Start with the three-action introduction
-
Select the correct intensity level for each individual dog
-
Give the dog a comparison,
and simplify lessons right away
-
Teach the command first
and guide the dog
while in the beginning stage.
-
Do not create a "collar wise" dog
-
Make
training enjoyable for the dog
-
Train to develop a willingness to obey
